meet the movement
Alex "Backspace" Diaz is the founder of "The Orphanage Movement;” an alliance of artists who guide younger generations of dancers through workshops, sponsoring events, and judging competitions. Alex started his dance career in 1993, with the Breakin' crew of Worcester, Massachusetts.
He is currently a member of T.O.P. R.O.C.K. C.R.E.W., which stands for "The Only People Rockin' Our City Kids.” Alex is also the creator of our “B-shirt”, a sweater that is customized to allow a dancer to spin on their back faster, and easier.
Over the years, Alex has acquired hosting skills, while working on Disney Cruise Line. He has also fulfilled the role of DJ when called upon. His true calling, however, lies in teaching. Alex believes that coaching and mentorship are by-products of our collective lifestyle. His emphasis on using dance vocabulary, with creativity interchangeably, are integral in his approach to teaching Hip-Hop.
